I look forward to this event in San Diego every year, and this time I’m particularly excited because I’ll be moderating a panel with two incredible authors: this year’s author guest of honor, James Blaylock, who helped pioneer the steampunk movement in the 1970s, and Vernor Vinge, a five-time winner of the Hugo Award.
Titled “PC & Prejudice,” the panel will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, and will explore whether it’s possible to depict accurate 19th-century racism, sexism, and homophobia in steampunk literature, or are steampunk characters merely moderns in Victorian dress?
It’s a timely topic, and I think it’ll make for a lively conversation.
